Yes, we all have New Year’s resolutions to save money and eat healthy, but my husband and I need a romantic night out this weekend after the whirlwind of holiday craziness! I recommend you budget accordingly and do the same.
I can’t think of a more perfect destination than Alta, a lovely Spanish tapas restaurant in the West Village. Located on a beautiful brownstone street, this dimly lit restaurant with rustic décor is sure to make you two lovebirds feel warm and cozy inside.
We journeyed to Alta for the first time a few weeks ago. I chose a glass of red from their carefully selected list of Mediterranean wines, and my husband ordered a glass of scotch (his new drink of choice- how classy!).
The waiter recommended 3-4 small plates per person. The menu consists entirely of tapas and prices range from $3-$15. We started off with 5 tapas, and after tasting the deliciousness that followed, we ordered more of our favorites.
I cannot stop thinking about the Pulled Pork Empanadas. My mouth is still watering from these flakey pastries filled with the most delicious juicy filling I ever tasted. The sweet & spicy cilantro dipping sauce was the perfect compliment.
The Blue Crab Risotto was all out creamy and delicious. This comfort food was packed with flavor. We ordered a second plate of this one, too (it was obvious that we ordered more empanadas, right?), and we licked the serving spoons clean.
Tied for third place were the Grilled Gulf Shrimp & Chorizo Skewers and the Coca (Catalonian Flatbread) topped with mushrooms, ricotta, truffled boschetto and herbs. Mmmm savory!
Gnocchi is not my favorite food in the world, but I have to say that the Ricotta Parmesan Gnocchi was surprisingly light and sat in the most delicate lemon and cheese broth.
The ambiance and delicious food made for a perfect evening at Alta.
