Still debating what dish to bring to your Thanksgiving gathering? Would you like to make something simple with ingredients that you already own? Want to create a guaranteed crowd pleaser? Well, wonder no more! If you are lucky enough to be in charge of dessert this year, pots de crème is your answer to all of the above. This delicious creamy custard is so über-easy and so über-divine that you will start making it on a weekly basis. Seriously, it’s dangerous. Recipe is courtesy of the Octagon’s own food fairy, Kristen, via the Food Network. Thinking caps not necessary:
Ingredients
2/3 cup whole milk (Please don’t cheat your guests! Use whole milk for best results!)
1 egg
2 tablespoons sugar
Pinch of salt
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons hazelnut liqueur or dark rum
1 cup whipping cream
2 tablespoons sugar
4 demitasse cups
for garnish: fruit, mint sprigs, etc. optional
Spoon chocolate into 4 demitasse cups and chill. After dinner, beat whipping cream until soft peaks form. Add a little sugar and beat to combine. Top the chocolate cups with a dollop of cream and garnish each cup with whatever you choose.
If you use teacups, this recipe will yield 2 cups, rather than 4. For the curious: In the picture above, I doubled the recipe and garnished with blackberries.
Heavenly! I’m telling you my friends, if you make this little delight and pronounce it correctly [poh duh KREHM] your guests, relatives, friends, pets will deem you a genius and that you should be the next Food Network star! Duh is it’s middle name and that is no mistake! Enjoy!
